GuardianHost closed its account-takeover loophole in a single sprint

Support PIN and SMS Notifications gave GuardianHost a verification step over the phone and instant alerts on account changes, closing a social-engineering gap in their support process.

As a security-focused hosting provider, GuardianHost's own support process was ironically its weakest link — phone support had no reliable way to verify a caller's identity beyond asking for an email address, an easy target for social engineering.

Support PIN closed that gap by giving every client a private verification PIN, required before support staff can discuss or change anything sensitive on an account over the phone or live chat — turning an honor-system check into an enforced one.

SMS Notifications was added alongside it so clients get an instant text alert on security-relevant events — password changes, PIN resets, new logins — giving them a real-time way to catch anything they didn't authorize themselves.

GuardianHost's security team now cites the combination as a core part of their support security posture in sales conversations with security-conscious clients, turning what was previously a liability into a selling point.
